Letter

April 25, 2011
Dear Jim,
I recently spoke with Mr. Merrill Poynter, a Pine Tree Pistol Club member and constituent of mine. He recommended that I write to your club’s board members and officers to notify you of legislation that I have co-sponsored, which will preserve the 2nd Amendment rights of Illinoisans.
I am a proud co-sponsor of House Bill 148. If passed, this bill would make Illinois the 49th state in the union to allow for concealed carry of firearms. I am pleased to inform you that since the Agriculture and Conservation Committee voted in favor of HB 148, this bill has been placed on the House calendar and will soon be brought to the floor for consideration.
House Bill 7 is another bill that I have co-sponsored. HB 7 would not allow the Illinois State Police to release FOID Card information. Not only is this a 2nd Amendment issue, but this is also a personal privacy issue. The state already requires FOID Card registration, and it should not infringe upon more rights by requiring that this information be made public.
I am also a co-sponsor of House Bill 3500, which would require uniform gun regulations throughout the state, rather than the patchwork laws we currently have, such as stricter regulation in the City of Chicago.
It seems that every day there is an attack on our personal freedoms when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. I want you to know that as your State Representative, I will continue to fight for our Constitutional right to bear arms just as I will fight for the passage of these important pieces of legislation.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 815-547-3436.
Sincerely,
Joe Sosnowski
State Representative
69th District
